SEND UP A FLAG

We think of ourselves as rugged individualists. We founded Eloqui, travel extensively, started a local non-profit, planted gardens and do much of our own property maintenance.

Yet, if we believed we did everything ourselves, we’d be delusional. A legion of talented individuals make our life possible. Consider writing up a list of those who bolster you, and you will be amazed. And grateful.

Angela Duckworth, author of a recent NY Times op-ed piece stated that successful people share a common trait; they appeal to others for support. Yet an overwhelming number of us see ourselves as self-made and are reticent to ask colleagues or friends to weigh in on a challenge.

It pleases us when clients seek our advice. It’s hard to turn down a sincere request to solve or manage a problem. Do yourself a favor and tap into the skills and intelligence of those you respect. It’s especially beneficial when rehearsing an upcoming presentation. Reach out when you have your content prepped, yet not locked in, so it’s easier to make and remember changes. Do a dry run and ask for comments. Then congratulate and thank your brain trust.
