TIP OF THE WEEK: EQ Muscle Soft skills is a sociological term for a person’s EQ, or emotional intelligence quotient. It refers to a cluster of personality traits, social graces, communication, ability with language, personal habits, friendliness and optimism. In the past, EQ has played second fiddle to hard skills, including facility with spreadsheets, balancing portfolios, operating machinery, software development and the like. But to paraphrase Charlie Osaki, Principal at the accounting firm of RBZ, “If my people can’t do a good job of articulating the technical aspects of a project, they won’t sell it. So for me, soft skills are now hard skills, and just as important.” Consider the robust outsourcing
of hard skill based work. What will never be outsourced is communication,
which in balance with technical ability, creates success. Take a hard look
