Great post. We work so hard on the words and the message...but accept the room as if we can't change it. So the question becomes ...what can we do to make the room for appropriate for my talk?

I'd like to share a tip that can be valuable if you are using PPT (PowerPoint). The challenge is that they often make the room darker so that the images on the screen appear clear. But it can put the speaker in the dark.

Tip: press the "b" while in PowerPoint and the screen will turn black. Press it again and your images will appear. This is useful when you want the focus to be on you NOT the screen.

Why not open with the screen in black instead of a title slide?

When can you turn off the images and "Own the Room"?

As usual, an excellent well thought out post. Many years ago in NY, I did a rather large number of business shows, then called "industrials". In a fair number of instances, I acted as both stage manager and associate producer, often being called on as a "speaking coach" for numerous stiff and boring speakers. It was a tremendous challenge to get results. I can only wish I'd had the effective Eloqui techniques available then in my hands. The ability to take acting performance techniques and apply them to general public speaking is awesome and Eloqui's clients have made wise choices to join Deborah and David in a quest to become still more compelling and forceful speakers. Whether in sales, management or technolgoy, the tools for powerful and knowledgeable communication are more critical than ever in today's ever faster moving business world. You could hardly engage better stewards of your communication skills than these two gifted professionals.
